ABPmer’s work on the Wallasea Wetlands Creation project has earned an award from the East of England Region of the Institute of Civil Engineers. It received a Merit Award for ‘an outstanding example of a civil engineering project completed in 2006’.
The Wallasea project was led by Defra’s Wildlife, Habitat and Biodiversity Division and the engineering advice was provided by Faber Maunsell. ABPmer have had a longstanding involvement with this project having carried out the site selection, scheme design and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for this Managed Realignment on the island’s north bank. ABPmer’s work on the project is on-going and involves a five-year monitoring plan as well as the development and maintenance of the project website.
ABPmer’s Wallasea Project Manager Colin Scott said:
“The Wallasea project represents an excellent coastal habitat creation initiative and a great example of what can be achieved with good teamwork. We are delighted to have received this award along with the other members of the project team. We are very proud of both our contribution to this successful and high profile project and our continued involvement in the longer term monitoring work for the site”.
